Sustainability

We are committed to investing in companies that conduct their business ethically, responsibly, and professionally.

As a holding company, UIE's approach to sustainability is rooted in active ownership. Through board representation and ongoing engagement, we encourage responsible business practices across our portfolio companies.

We expect the companies in which we invest to operate ethically, protect the environment, support their employees, and contribute positively to the communities in which they operate. We believe that sustainable business practices are essential to long-term value creation and integrate environmental, social, and governance considerations into our investment approach.

Our approach

Our sustainability approach and reporting is centred on United Plantations, the only company in our portfolio over which we exercise control and hold a majority shareholder position. Through a Double Materiality Assessment, we have identified the sustainability topics that have the greatest impact on the business, the environment and society.

Our material topics

Climate change

Greenhouse gas emissions and energy use across the group, and what it takes to bring them down.

Water and marine resources

How much water the operations draw, where it comes from, and what happens to it afterwards.

Biodiversity and ecosystems

Sustainable palm oil for a growing world

As demand for food continues to grow, sustainable land use is more important than ever. Palm oil is the world's most efficient vegetable oil crop, producing more oil per hectare than any alternative. Although palm oil accounts for around 37% of global oils and fats production, it occupies less than 0.5% of the world's agricultural land. Producing the same volume of oil from crops such as soybean, rapeseed, or sunflower would require 5-7 times more land.

At United Plantations, we combine industry-leading yields with responsible and sustainable cultivation, helping to strengthen global food security while minimising pressure on land and natural ecosystems.
